NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES
1. Plan Your Area
-
Sketch your space and measure carefully.
-
Remember: the turf has a direction—lay all pieces the same way so the fibers match.
-
Add 1–2 feet to the length of each roll to allow for trimming.
-
Standard roll width is 14'6", and you should account for about 20% waste.
2. Prepare the Base
-
Clear the area of grass and roots. Remove at least 2.5” of the existing surface.
-
A sod cutter (available at most rental shops) makes this easier.
-
For extra weed protection, a vegetation killer can be used—but it’s optional.
3. Add a Subbase
-
Spread 2”–4” of crushed rock or aggregate (depth depends on climate).
-
Use a rake to level the base, then compact it with a sod roller or plate compactor.
-
Wetting the area can help with compaction.
-
As a guide: 1 ton (2,000 lbs) of material covers approx. 100 sq. ft. at 2" depth.
4. Prepare the Turf
-
Lay the turf out in the sun (blade-side down) for 1–2 hours to help it relax.
-
Trim off the excess material (manufacturing edge) from the backing before seaming.
-
Cut from the back between the second and third stitch rows with a sharp knife—never from the top.
5. Lay the Turf
-
Roll out each section on the base, leaving extra length for adjustments.
-
Make sure all pieces face the same direction to match the grain.
-
Trim the final shape once everything is positioned.
6. Cutting Around Obstacles
-
For rocks or odd shapes, start cutting from the center outwards.
-
Make small, careful cuts to let the turf sit flat against the ground.
-
Work in smaller sections to keep control of the turf.
7. Seaming Turf Sections
-
Align the fibers in the same direction before seaming.
-
Make sure there’s no overlap—lay edges side-by-side.
-
Apply seaming tape with glue between the two pieces, and press down firmly.
-
Wipe off excess glue and nail along the seam every 4" (do not counter sink).
-
Once glue is dry, remove nails, stretch the turf, and secure the edges.
8. Secure the Turf
-
Use 3”–6” nails to secure the turf along the edges every 3"–4".
-
Also add nails in a grid pattern (every 3 feet) within the interior.
-
Use galvanized or steel nails—they’ll rust slightly, helping to lock in place.
-
Add more nails in high-traffic or loose areas.
9. Add Sand Infill
-
Use a drop spreader to apply silica sand evenly—about 2.5–3 lbs per sq. ft.
-
Spread in a steady pattern, starting along the perimeter and working inward.
10. Final Grooming
-
Brush the turf with a stiff broom or power broom against the grain.
-
Look for low spots and add more sand if needed.
-
Finish with one last brush-over for a clean, upright look.
