Vinyl Dance Floor Care & Maintenance Guide
Now that you’ve got the basics covered, let’s move on to the step-by-step care and maintenance guide to help you keep your Marley dance floor in top condition for years to come.
Inspecting Your New Floor
When your Vinyl Dance Floor arrives, inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. Allow the floor to warm to room temperature, especially if it has been delivered in cold weather.
Proper Storage
- For Dance Floor and Adagio Styles: Store these horizontally on the shipping core to prevent collapsing.
Preparing Your Sub-Floor
Ensure your sub-floor is free from any protrusions like screws or nails, and fill in cracks with an appropriate filler before laying down your Vinyl Dance Floor. This step helps prevent damage to the floor and ensures a safer environment for dancers.
Cutting the Floor to Fit
Unroll the floor on a flat surface, measure the length needed, and cut using a matte knife along a straight edge. Always double-check your measurements before cutting.
Taping the Floor
-
Top Tape Method: Leave an 1/8" (3mm) gap between pieces for expansion and cover with vinyl floor tape.
-
Double-Stick Tape Method: Attach double-sided tape to the sub-floor first, then carefully place the vinyl floor over the tape in small sections.

Rolling and Storage
Before rolling up your floor for storage, sweep it to remove dirt. Roll it tightly on a solid core, tape it to keep it from unrolling, and wrap it in a protective cover. Store in a clean area, ideally not stacking more than two rolls high.
Protecting Your Dance Floor
- Use mats or carpets at entry points to reduce dirt.
- Avoid eating, drinking, or smoking on the floor.
- Keep sharp objects, chairs, and heavy items off the surface.
- Clean spills immediately and avoid abrasive cleaning tools.
Maintaining Your Floor
-
Regular Cleaning: Sweep and mop 3 times a week with a soft push broom. Use warm (not hot) water.
-
Cleaning Solutions: Use a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.
Recommended Cleaning Solutions:
- For regular maintenance, we highly recommend using All-Purpose Cleaner. Just mix 1 ounce of cleaner with 1 gallon of warm water for light cleaning or 2-4 ounces for more stubborn dirt. It’s specially formulated to leave your dance floor looking spotless without leaving any residue.
- For floors that have been in storage or require deep cleaning, our Heavy Duty Cleaner is the best option. It not only removes dirt but also acts as a floor stripper, leaving your dance floor refreshed and ready for use.
